Select the distracting app and add its website domain in Modern Focus. Both can draw from the same rolling allowance. Website blocking depends on address-bar detection in supported Android browsers; it is not a system-wide network filter and does not cover every browser or in-app webview.
Limiting a social app can leave an obvious detour: opening the same platform in a browser. If the activity is the same, restricting just the installed app may leave the pattern mostly unchanged.
Modern Focus lets you select Android apps and add website domains. Its shared allowance connects those selected destinations, so moving between a selected app and a detected selected site does not create a separate budget.
Select the app and add the domain
- Open Modern Focus and check that monitoring is active.
- In the Blocker area, choose the Android apps you want to restrict.
- Open Websites and add the domains you also visit, such as instagram.com or reddit.com.
- Review your shared allowance, rolling window, and advanced settings.
- Test a selected app and a selected site before relying on the setup.
Domain matching includes the selected domain and its subdomains. It is not a way to block only one kind of content on that domain. Restricting youtube.com does not distinguish a lecture from a recommended video.
Understand browser support
The current service recognizes Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Samsung Internet on Android. It reads accessible address-bar information to identify the website. Browser interface changes, browsing surfaces without a readable address bar, and other browsers can limit detection.
This is not a VPN or a network-level filter. Do not assume it covers every embedded browser inside another app, every private browsing context, or another device. Test the exact route you tend to use.
Run a simple setup check
Use a small amount of selected content and confirm that the dashboard records it against the shared allowance. Then check the blocker reason when a rule applies. Do this with an ordinary, nonessential app or site so a setup mistake does not interrupt something urgent.
If monitoring is inactive or stale, follow the app's service-status guidance. Usage access helps recover some missed foreground tracking, but it does not make unsupported website surfaces detectable. Android battery restrictions can also affect whether monitoring stays responsive.
Keep essential browsing practical
Choose domains thoughtfully. If your study materials, employment, or communication depend on a site, an overly broad restriction may be counterproductive. Modern Focus cannot always separate the valuable and distracting parts of a service.
Once settings are locked, removing targets or relaxing limits requires restarting the phone and making changes within the first five minutes after boot. You can still add restrictions or tighten limits while locked. Understand this before configuring a busy workday.
The goal is to cover the detours you actually use while leaving the rest of your phone useful. A short verification on your own device is part of setting a boundary you can trust.
